Re: 98 GMC sierra Sign In

when it doesnt work/start what is it doing??? just cranking and cranking but never turning over or are you not getting any response from the key at all or do you hear clicking liek a dead battery???

your going to have to try to be a little more descriptive.

first step off the bat......is to clean/inspect/tighten your battery terminals/cable ends.

Re: 98 GMC sierra Sign In

Have them do a fuel pressure test. Also, have them check for pressure bleed-off after the engine is shut down.
(I'm assuming that the filter has been replaced, already) The 4.3 Vortecs need 55psi to even start. Sometimes, you can build enough pressure to start by cycling the key on/off several times (5-10second intervals). If the pressure is bleeding off, it has to 'prime' itself each time. Then, need to find out where it is bleeding to.

Re: 98 GMC sierra Sign In

the 4.3L engines (vin code W) have a tendency to develop a fuel leak inside the plenum. If it does turn out to be pressure bleeding off, this is a likely location if you can't find a pressure loss anywhere else. Now, I'm not saying to start replacing parts, that could get expensive real quick. Definitely follow proper diagnostic procedure before replacing parts. I just wanted to throw that info out there because it is a very common occurance

cpaine; You are absolutely right on! Is, more than likely, the problem. Welcome to the Forum.
