98 Dodge Intrepid - No Injector Pulse - Turns over, won't start Sign In

My daughter has a 98 dodge intrepid, 2.7. We just bought it four months ago. She can drive it all day, not at all, many stops, few stops. It’s the short stops when she is ready to leave, the car won’t start. Doesn’t overheat & temperature gauge is fine. After anywhere from an hour to two hours the car starts up and runs like nothing ever happened. Shops say they can’t do anything unless it’s acting up yet when it’s acting up she is stranded somewhere. Now, it won’t start at all. Turns over but won’t start. Had it towed to shop. It has fuel and it has spark. It does not have injector pulse. I’ve replaced cam, crank and coolant sensor which I’m told is the 3 out of 4 things the injector pulse runs off of and that didn’t work. It’s now at the shop with (a used one from junk yard) PCM to put in it. Haven’t heard back from the shop yet, but, if the PCM doesn’t work – do you have any suggestions of what to try next? Everyone is at their whit’s end and tired of working on this car. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

It could be a problem with the crankshaft sensor or sensor circuit.

Does your car have vehicle theft theft security system (VTSS)?

I'm not sure if it has a security system or not? How could I tell for sure? Put the new PCM computer in and still won't start. They said I can't buy a new injector pulse, yet that's what's not working, so I guess I just don't understand how to fix it or what else could be wrong. I have replaced all four things that the shop said the injector pulse runs off of. I don't know what to do?

It's kinda tough with out being there...

Is it setting any codes??? I would try disconnecting all the injectors & see if that brings back the pulse..

A look at a cmp/ckp scope pattern would be helpful....Also knowing if there were any lost sync codes

Just a quick thought, have them disconnect the cmp sensor & see if it starts & hopefully there isn't a P0016 already there

Easiest way to tell if it has VTSS is to look on top of the dash. There will be a blinking LED.

If your vehicle doesn't have VTSS and you stick a PCM in there from a vehicle that has VTSS, the engine won't start. The VTSS system keeps the engine from starting by killing injector pulse. You can use a scan tool to see if the VTSS is active. You can also monitor injector pulse width with a scan tool to see if the PCM is commanding.

If the BCM died or isn't communicating with the PCM and you have VTSS, the engine won't start because the PCM is looking for enable information from the BCM. The BCM and the PCM work together on a VTSS equipped vehicle.

Re: 98 Dodge Intrepid - No Injector Pulse - Turns over, won't start Sign In

My friend who is working on the car has been out of town so he was just now able to get back to it. He disconnected the injectors and the sensor and after doing that the car started right up! I can't thank you enough for your help! He was telling me to junk the car since it had no injector pulse, which I probably would have ended up doing had you not of saved me.

My daughter is glad to finally have her car back and I am glad we are not sharing my truck anymore lol.....

Thank you again for everything!

I'm glad you got the car running...

But those steps were to hopefully point you in the right direction......Realize there is still a problem with the car that should be traced down......

I would hate to see it let you down again.

But thx 4 taking the time to come back & let us know what was going on.....

I think he said it needed a new coil pack? I think that's what it was called. Said it would be cheap and he should be able to have it done today. I neglected to mention that in my previous email.

Thank you again Smile

Coil pack??
That should not have anything to do with no injector pulse.
