97 Sebring Convert. JX Lots of problems

97 Sebring Convert. JX Lots of problems Sign In

OK, first I have 1997 Sebring Convertible JX that I got from a man from Florida last year. I live in Ontario, Canada. This car is all American, including the speedometer. Also she has 115K miles on it right now, but I drive it way more then the older gentleman did and it was completely babied throughout it's 13 years. Never saw winter. But this being my only car, I have to drive it in the winter. After, buying the car, I couldn't afford to get it oiled for winter and in Ontario, they use a salt/sand mix.

Anyway, the car was great up until I hit an open sewer drain over the winter. I almost immediately noticed the passenger side bearing grinding. I was waiting to get it fixed right away, because I was saving up for it and to get my oil loss looked at(looks like we may be leaking or burning oil) After that and a couple other bad runins with potholes, I started to get a tranny problem. I would be going along and then my car would slip into nuetral and stick in 2nd. After turning the car off I get my 1st back. The engine light comes on then stays for a day and then goes off until it then goes back into limp mode a couple days later. Using the flashing light indicator I pulled a Code 45 from the dash. My mechanic had no idea what that meant.

2 weeks ago, I was driving and there was a horrible lurch, like something broke, then a loud irregular knock/grind noise. Like I was dragging a tin can under my car. Took it in and they said that my axle was separated from the bearing. Both were replaced and all was good. Mechanic said the Tranny was perfect. But when I picked up my car the engine light was on. I just figured it was reminant of the axle. Now, it is going into limp mode every other day, and there is a knocking under the driver side floor that can be felt in the shifter and faintly on the passenger side. Again, this is irregular and it slows down when braking. I can feel it all the way through 10kph-100kph but it is fast when driving and slows when stopping. sounds almost like mini backfires or that something is loose and is banging against something else.

Also, when turning slow, like in a parking lot, my tires sound like there is rubber rubbing somewhere, the front end sounds like rusty bed springs, and my hubby replaced the front brakes 2 months ago and they squeak even louder then the old brakes did.

None of this seems to make any sense to anyone. I think it is because it is American and might be made different then Canadian cars. If anyone can let me know how to specifically explain what to look at, I would greatly appreciate it.

Oh I also have a pool in the back, but I have to locate the plugs, does anyone know where they are?

it sounds to me like a wheel bearing on your drivers side.
