96 Mustang Radiator Problems

The start of my problems began when I got my regular Oil change. The next day I noticed my Engine temperature gauge rising and falling every 20 seconds or so. After I coxed it home from work, I got out and grabbed the radiator tube and it was rock hard. So i though maybe I had an Air pocket in the tube. Took off the radiator cap and it gurgled right down. Next morning, I start it up and the engine temperature starts to rise after about 10 minutes of driving it. So at this point I took it to a auto repair spot and we figured out I had a cracked radiator. Fine, got it replaced. Now this morning As i pulled into work steam was coming off my radiator. My temperature gauge said all good. But it was definetly not. Could I have a bad water pump or Thermostat?

First, check the coolant level in the reservoir and the radiator once it is safe to do so. If they are still full, it may have just been coolant spillage during the radiator transplant. Anti-freeze doesn't evaporate like water and will 'steam' for quite awhile. The spiking of the temp guage does bother me, though. Many times when an engine overheats, it can damage the thermostat (if it wasn't the original cause...). A new thermostat is cheap insurance.
