96 Ford 1/2 ton. Can't get out of park w/o battery disconnect. Sign In
96 ford 1/2 ton. Can't get out of park unless I disconnect the battery. ABS light flashes 16 times, yet my Chilton book says it shouldn't do that. Anybody know what's broke or how to by-pass for now?

See if your brake lights work. Some Ford cars were locked in park until they sensed the brake lights. Probably the switch at the pedal if so. Bet the default is when there is no power to it but the couple I found had a wire pulled out of the switch as it was a bit too short so I just grabbed a couple plugs at a salvage yard with some extra wire to splice in and that was all it took.
