95 pontiac grand am gt car stopped running

95 pontiac grand am gt car stopped running Sign In

was driving the car and it was running just fine then started to lose power for a minute or 2 but straightened out and ran fine again for about a half hour then started to lose power again and died after letting the car sit for about 45 mins tried to start it again it started but was missing in 1 or 2 cyl and died again towed the car home replaced the icm module both coils and the coil housing also replaced the plug boots and plugs car will now start but still not running good.lacks power at times on aceleration but other times it doesnt lack power this is the quad 4 engine has 173000 miles on it.was looking at engine to check fuel preasure but cannot find anywhere to hook up preasure guage had put fuel injector cleaner in the tank 3x in the last 3 fillups thinking it was time the car has been acting funny for the past couple of months

 You never mentioned checking fuel pressure. That is one of the first things you want to look at on that vehicle. You need to be watching it when the problem is present. It has to remain within spec at all times.


Fuel System Pressure [1] 284-325 kPa (41-47 psi) [1] With engine "OFF," ignition "ON," and the fuel pump running. Fuel system pressure with engine running at idle speed will be lower.

Some of them have a service port on the end of the fuel rail and some you have to use adapters on the fuel lines to hook up a gauge.

thanks thats what i have been trying to find out and nobody around here seemed to know is how do you check fuel preasure with on that doesnt have a test port on it this one doesnt i ordered a new preasure regulator today and purchased a new fuel pump and fuel filter getting readdy to install them today thanks again for the help will advise if this works

I don't know why your just throwing parts at it with no testing. that can get very expensive.

Most fuel pressure kits have adapters for most vehicles. You would likely tee into the line where the rubber couples to the metal line with the quick connect fitting.

Shouldn't be too tough to tee into the fuel line at the fuel filter with the proper connectors.

I believe the fuel filter is back at the gas tank in a tough place and it has different connectors at each end. The incoming pressure line should have a quick connect near the master cylinder that can be tee'd into.
