Can anyone please help me?? I have a 95 pontiac firebird 3.4 liter engine and I had to replace the ignition module in it. Well due to a friend helping me my battery went dead and asked him to jump it off for me and when he did he crossed the wires (positive to negative and vise verse) and he needless to say he shorted fuses wires and relays. Well I replaced all that but my problem now is I can get the car to crank and run for 5 seconds at the most and it shuts off. I checked my coils and they are firing properly. My fuel pressure at cranking is at 45 psi but it almost seems to me that the fuel injectors will only run to start the car but cut off after 5 seconds. What could cause this problem or am I over looking another problem somewhere else? Im at wits end and the car has been down since labor day last year. If anyone could help get in the right direction it would greatly be appreciated. Thank you. Almost forgot to ask could the anti theft device have anything to do with it? And if so how do I reset it?

Hi, If that's an aftermarket theft control you may need to get in touch with the manufacturer. There should be a well hidden switch to disable the system which may help. I don't know if anyone can be sure about all the things that may get hurt by a reverse polarity jump. FYI -- I stopped jumping vehicles for the most part and use a strong carry around jumper box as even a shorted battery problem can way overstress the donor vehicle. Yes the security system could very well have something to do with this. GM’s Pass lock systems were capable of disabling the starter motor and or have the PCM (power-train control module) not pulse the injectors. There are no “reset” procedures, if the system is at fault for the no start it needs to be repaired. Whether it is the theft deterrent module, blown fuses, bad resistor pellet in the key, ignition lock contacts, PCM or a wiring issue; all of which would need to be tested to find out who’s not doing their job? Before you ask; sorry; it would be too hard for me to explain how to test the system over the Internet. Other then make sure all the fuses are good, try a different key that you know you’ve used to run the car in the past. Also someone that knows the system could possibly (for sure) by-pass the system and fool the PCM to pulse the injectors. Again sorry I wouldn’t be able to help with that sitting here at a keyboard. Thanks Dan for the suggestions. As to the other reply it is a factory theft system and not a after market one. I guess I should explain the whole problem in detail that I see I didnt in the earlier message which is my fault. It all started on labor day weekend when I went to Philly and New York. I went to ground zero to see for myself the damange and when I got back into my car and turned the key I got NOTHING, dead silence. Well after a little twisting and turning I relized that the key was missing the run position in the cylinder. So for me to get back to philly and home to Va Beach we had to turn the key and find the point and tie a wire around it to keep it there. Well when I got home we replaced the ignition module and the whole steering colume and thats when the battery went dead and like I said before thats when the idiot crossed the wires and I had the mess of fuses, relays and wires. After fixing ALL that thats when the problem of the running for 5 seconds came into play but we did try one option to lead us to the injectors. We put gas straight in the intake and the car ran just as it did when I bought the thing. But take the gas away and let the injectors try to do their work and I get the 5 second deal. I did call the pontiac dealer to find out how to reset the theft control and it didnt work either.So my thinking is that part of the PCM might have shorted out to fire the injectors or some how the theft device shorted out and thats the cause. Thats where Im stuck at for now. And needless to say this is my dream car and I would LOVE to drive it again.
