1995 chevrolet lumina base v6-189ci 3.1L F/I Vin M.
mileage 141081 miles.
i start the car after 6 hours of cooling down. its work good. after 30 to 40 minutes the temp get to half and ready to go over. outside degree 95 to 113F. AC is off all time. thers no water leake. i already flush the radiator in car washing. use acdelco radiator water. the air flow on the driver side fan twice better than passenger side one. i buy new acdelco motor made in USA, 15-8490,
.
still the same the car get heat fast. i left the hood open and drive the car the temp become about 15% better than before. im thinking to install push fan from outside the radiater passenger side, pull and push at the same time. it will make any different or no. please help me because i dont wanna to lose my money for nothing. i saw this acdelco moter on the acdelco part catalog website. they said its heavy duty, 15-8429,

, i try to know how much rpm for the both motor but i couldnt find it. what i should do put a push fan or buy the hvy duty motor. i thought may be its blown head casket, but i couldn find any oil or air bubbles in radiator water.
please advice me.

this will be the last stupid v6 i will ever use in my whole life. i have '83 caprice classic wagon v8 305cid we own this car since 25 years, its lose some horse power but it work just fine.

What the heck does any of that mean? You make no sense at all.

You temp goes to half way? so what? It's going to go higher than that too. That's the way it is engineered. The fans don't even turn on until about 226 degrees. It's not overheating until it goes over about 230 degrees.

if i drive the car over 40 minute. the temp will go near the red line. i get scared and kill down the engine. yesterday i disconnect the both fan relay from the computer and i add manual switch. i start the both fan at the same time and use my car its same story with the temp.

First of all, put the fans back the way they were and hope you haven't damaged the computer. You need to use a scan tool to know exactly what temp the engine is running,

As i already told you, it is normal for this engine to hit 227 or higher. It also uses a 2 stage fan system.

Re: '95 lumina over heat fast? Sign In

first i didnt damage the computer. i make a new wire battery -> on/off switch -> relay -> fan. i restore it to original set. the change was small. i went to gm dealer. he told me sorry i dont have machine to test your old carMad, i get upset and leave. i try to search in market but i couldnt find some one check it. i find the tools in amazon, about 100$. if i wanna to order it it will costt me with cargo about 250. i will not buy this money for that. i m saving money to go to america and take my old caprice wagon with me.
i know how to replace the head gasket and clean the fuel inje but thers no place here to do that, if i rub my head in the street i will go to prison and buy money F**k this.
no one told me what the difference between the two motor, in the picture.

**i m worry about the temp because last summer i wasnt face hight temp. even when i was start the ac and drive under burning sun the temp was stop in the middle and never go higher, dosnt matter how long i will drive.

I apologize if this take long time. i have one row radiator. if i but two row radiator its will make any difference in cooling the engine?. is the heavy duty acdelco fan motor better than the normal one?.
please check this video and tell me if you can see any problem??.
the first video only after i drive the car for 10 minute without ac.
http://www.youtube.com/...amp;feature=youtu.be
the second one after i let the car get cool. no oil, no air on the radiator water.
http://www.youtube.com/...amp;feature=youtu.be
i dont know what the problem. i let the chevy dealer check point to see the car he tell me to go and put new engine from junkyard. the engine still have some power the accelerate still good. and i can drive the car over 90m/h.
please help me if you can.

Re: '95 lumina over heat fast? Sign In

You can't just add another radiator to cool the engine better. If it's overheating something is wrong with your car. The car was engineered to work with the parts in it. You're going about this all wrong. The only way to repair this is to figure out what is wrong. Are you losing any coolant? First off, you need to pressure test the cooling system to see if it holds pressure. If it doesn't, you have a leak and that's why it's overheating. That would be my guess. I just worked on a 3.1 L a few months ago that had a leaking intake gasket. If it's not leaking, try and flush the cooling system. You have to figure out why it's overheating.

You can buy a 1995 Lumina over here for less than what it would cost to ship your car over. It's stupid to freight over a 1995 Lumina that overheats.

Re: '95 lumina over heat fast? Sign In

Confused a bit with this thread. Is it really overheating? Small infrared touch-less thermometers are not expensive to get actual temps.

Messing with wiring for the fans is not good, it that undone now? It should be be or original idea. On the 3.1 shown looks normal to me with radiator cap removed and engine revved up.

Two row radiator SHOULD be better but can't say for sure. It could just be different metals used or perhaps they did make a cooling system for higher temp areas.

Things that can cause troubles include antifreeze way too strong. If in high heat all the time or most of the time lower freeze protection to perhaps just -15-20F but change it more often.
********************
Earlier you mentioned air flow and I'm completely confused. You really should separate issues and the cars or things will be confused.

****************************
83 Caprice with 305 should not have lost power from age alone. Anything possible at the age but would suspect exhaust is being restricted first. Fussy carbs on those also need to be just right.

Please separate the issues so it's less confusing,

T

thank you for you help. i will buy the two row radiator. and i will clean the fuel injec.. i hope its invisible radiator damage. i will inform you what will happen in the next three days.

today i sprayed water on the Radiator from outside, while the engine iding when the temp get more than half. its get cool in less than 30 second. then get heat again after 30 minute.
i m sure its over heated because when the gauge get over the half i open the hood and i can smell it.
*******
im waiting my green card i will take my caprice with me. not the lumina. its just love.

If that is happen at idle or in slow traffic, that is completely normal. The fans don't even come on until over 225 degrees.

Just bring that one to New York City too when you come. Someone will steal it the first night you're here and then you won't have to worry about it. Cool

i open the plasting tank on the radiator, 80% of the raws was closed with a large amount of rust. i try to clean it with steel wire for two weeks. i take a big fan motor from venture at the junk yard. now i can drive the car without ac for along time. the temp will never get over the half. when i start the ac the temp get lower only in quater. i hope i can help some one else with this problem. thanks all for your support.

Re: '95 lumina over heat fast? Sign In

That would do it. Surprised you didn't hurt it with wire brush. Temp will bounce a bit higher before fan(s) kick on but this one fan should stay on with A/C use so that's why the difference.

Keep good new 50/50 antifreeze in it as that rust came from somewhere and nice if you can stop it from getting worse,

T
