driving down highway car overheated.pulled right over. leaking antifreeze.waited till it cooled,got some water in it and got it home.it's not any of the hoses.because the water was spraying out in a straight stream right at the "rad". i was thinking water pump.but when i looked at it closer it could be the freeze out plug,rusted and nasty looking.going to change them both.i know how to get it out,but to get the new one in<freeze out plug that is>
might be a problem. thank you

There's more than two of those. They can be called "freeze plugs" , "core plugs" , and "frost plugs" and you'll find they are cheap and a total pest to change - some require removing the engine! They are friction fit in there and you remove the rusted ones however you can by chisling, pull, tilt it and pull or whatever works for the location. If you don't want to got nuts with this ask at a parts store for "expandable" ones (rubber or a metal thing) that can fit inside the old one in place and just tighten up and seal with a wrench/socket. Get one new one on the counter and match an expandable one to it.
Proper replacement can be a pill as said. May I suggest you let this go out to a shop if you don't have a good assortment of tools for this?
