95 chevy tach randomly jumping

95 chevy tach randomly jumping Sign In

my 95 chevy silverado has 160000 miles and is a 5.7 liter. the tach has been jumping around on me after ive been driving a while lasting less than a minute. and is becoming more frequent. do you have any suggestions? thanks

terry; Long shot, but could be from RFI. (secondary ignition resistance)?

RFI=Radio Frequency Interference. The tachometer is electronically controlled. It gets it's signal, indirectly, from the distributor. Too much resistance in the cap/rotor/wires ect. can cause it.

ok thanks i did look at and clean my dist. and rotor, but havent taken it for a test run yet. i had thought it might be the icm? or a hairline crack in the dist.? it being random has got me guessing. Ill get new wires when i get the chance
