95 Jetta GL Radiator Trouble Sign In

Let me start by saying I'm very inexperienced with cars. Unfortunately, I'm also very broke, so I don't have the money to pay a mechanic to fix my car.

On my way back home I was driving on the highway and once I made it home, I noticed white smoke coming from under my hood and antifreeze was leaking from under the car, even though my coolant gauge was still reading a normal temp.

My Jetta has always had a slow antifreeze leak, and I've always needed to refill the coolant tank about once every other month or so.
Although I'm inexperienced with cars, I'm capable of learning quickly and I would like to be able to take care of this myself.

Does anyone know where I should start? What should I check? What should I replace?

Your first step is to determine exactly where the coolant leak is. After that is confirmed, we can give more information. It can be a hose, gasket, water pump or radiator. So without knowing where it is leaking, we are just tossing quarters in the air.

I found the leak.

Here's what it looks like under the hood

Here's where the leak is coming from:

A closeup pic:

When i bring the car past about 4,000 RPM, a stream of coolant shoots out from this leak.

1.) What component is this that's leaking?
2.) Is it fixable?
3.) How hard is it to fix?
4.) How much will it cost me?
