95 Honda Civic starting issue

Hi there,
Mileage: 102,000KM
Transmission: Auto
Issue:
Everything was fine until just a few days ago when I turned the key and cranked for 1 second or so it would usually turn the engine and away I go, but this time when i let go of the key (thinking the car has started) the car immediately shut off everything. I tried again but same result.
So when cranking, I stepped on the accelerator a bit and that got the car going and off I go.
Since then, I have to step on the accerlerator (gas) everytime I start the car.
What would the problem be?
How would I resolve this?
Where should I start checking?
