I am working on a 95 Dodge Neon brake system and have a leak in the primary proportioning valve. There is an "O" ring around a grove in the outside body of this valve. In the grove is a small hole about the size of a paper clip. When the brake pedal is pressed, brake fluid squirts out of this "O" ring from that hole. What is the purpose of this hole, and can we JB Weld it temporarily until we can get a replacement valve from Dodge - at least 4 days after order. Not available from any of the after market guys?

I can't tell you the exact purpose of that hole but with brk systems, open holes like that to the outside are usually vents or air bleeds and when fluid comes out the part is defective... JB weld probably wouldn't hold, plus you wouldn't be addressing the primary leak anyway. It would be similar to plugging the evap drain for a heater core leak. It's a bad idea to drive this car. For safety reasons for everyone involved, this car needs to be parked until it can be repaired properly. Also you could be assuming some liability here depending on how bad the worse case scenario played out

No argument from me. Fortunately, the guy put JB Weld and it held...BUT the added pressure caused another spot to burst a huge hole in the primary brake line. I hope the lady (owner) waits for the new valve, and when the new one comes in, I am going to disect the bad one or find a cross-section drawing. The first mechanic said he bled the lines, but I could barely open one of the bleeder valves, and it was completely plugged. I would still like to have anyone explain the hole in the proportioning valve. ANYONE?
