94 isuzu rodeo v6 jerking problems Sign In

Hi I have a 1994 Isuzu Rodeo the v6 kind and it has recently started acting really weird. The other day when I started it up after I drove about 100 feet it started jerking really bad. It seemed like the gas wasn't getting all through or something like that but this jerking if you keep the gas pedal down it will stop after 3 to 7 minutes. while its jerking its pretty intense not just a little jerk here and there but a massive back and forth back and forth in ur seat. Also when it does that t5he things on the dash are moving up and down and the check engine light is goin on and off.when it flashes off for that milli second it seems like if I took my foot off the gas it would die but I don't so it never dies. I had my dad come over and he changed my spark plugs for me (he said they were gross cause they were covered in oil??/) I dont know if that means anything but also the car has been blowing a little whitish smoke since that day. My dad said the oil was fine and my fluids are ok...oh also the car only does this for the firsrt ten minutes its driving. like for sure when i drive for the first time that day it will do it, sometimes so bad I just park it but once it gets going , it seems ok.. Thank You, Mandy

The "check engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light is an indicator for a system that monitors many electronic functions in the system, also called the "malfunction indicator lamp" (MIL). It can come on for any of hundreds of different causes from any of the systems that the computer monitors. Some are very important and can lead to further component or engine damage and some are emissions related not as serious but still a problem and need to be repaired.

Your first step is to have the computer scanned to retrieve the trouble codes that were set when the check engine light came on. Those codes will give you specific information about what the computer saw and will get you pointed in the right direction to find your problem. With a 1996 or newer and some 95 cars and you have an AutoZone or Advanced auto parts in your area, they will read them for free. Once you have these code numbers, we can be a lot more specific about what your problem may be.
