94 gmc Sierra 4.3l v6 starts but dies idling unless you give it a little gas

I have a 94 gmc Sierra 4.3l v6. It sat for over a year, so the gas tank was rusted and had bad gas in it. After replacing the gas tank and fuel pump. The truck will start up and idle for a few seconds before it starts to sputter out and die. If I give it a little gas or set the idle really high the engine will continue to run. While trying to get it working it has back fired once. Any idea on what the problem could be? Thanks a lot!

Test your fuel pressure using an accurate gauge and post the results here.
