Hey all. Niece has this vehicle and the left front bearings are loose. I looked at autozone to see replacement procedures. It has auto locking hubs. Is there any other things I need to know before I dig in to replace these bearings? Thanks

Re: 94 Mazda Navahoe 4WD Sign In

Hey Mr 2old,

Been a while but did battle with an Explorer about that year if I recall at all the first thing that confused it was the locking wedge thingy covered in grease not apparent till you look closely.........

.......... there shown as single hump key. Magnet and tiny watch/eyeglass repair type screwdriver did persuade it to come out but if that isn't free I can see a nightmare lurking with that little sucker. That's the only surprise I recall with the whole job but critical to know it's there acting as the "cotter pin" if you will in other "packable" wheel bearing ideas.

I clearly recall that little thing really needs to come out willingly as it didn't seem like there was any way to force this thing if it was rusted or otherwise stuck more than a magnet would pull.

So - just the socket for that nut and knowing that thing was there was it. Otherwise it should go like any other "inner-outer" type wheel bearing & race set up. Good luck,

T

Thanks. I pulled it apart that far today and saw the key. It slides a little, but I was at in laws and had no tools to pull the key out. Thanks for the reply.
