93 accord ex, 2dr, replacing side vent glass Sign In

i know this is not engine trouble, but i didn't see where else to post this, so here it is. i have a 93 honda accord, ex, 2dr coupe, my son busted out the side vent glass trying to get back into the car, it was running and locked up, anyway, there is a u-pull-it place near us where i get my parts, i haven't ever taken one of these out, what do i need to take with me , as far as tools go, and how do i get it out. i am sure there is some trim pieces that need to come off, i just don't know what holds it on. any help would be great, thanks, bruce

Bruce - post is here see.

I don't know what you need to replace a side window and didn't know Accords ever had vent windows so didn't reply on with any suggestions. "General Discussions" is a better place to make a post if you don't know where to place one. A window problem shouldn't be in with engine troubles and duplicates just confuse the forum so I'll take those out,

ok, i call it a veny glass because it pops outwards, but maybe it is called a rear side glass. anyway, i am going to a u-pull-it place to get one and i need to know how to pull it out if anyone knows, what kind of tools do i take with me, i think i am going to have to take some trim pieces off for sure, but not sure what holds the window in place. any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

OK: I'll try with some basics. I didn't know those even popped out in back - good news as I love windows that move!

Take a good look at the old broken one and it's parts first. For the latch parts, some go thru glass I would guess and look interior side for a roll pin or best to get the whole thing intact used as you said that's what you'll do. Just go easy on the car and look - rivots? They need to be drilled out so have a cordless to take with you to salvage yard.

My basic guess is you are going to find rivots and may need to re-rivot in the replacement as sometimes even little nuts and bolts won't fit.

More in general: Rubber stuff. Take things like dull butter knife, plastic things to pry with. Rubber stuff usually fits snug over or into a groove. If parts are on the glass they are glued and tricky to remove. Special adhesives for that but I don't think that will apply for this window. It the part where it's hinged is too hard to take in whole and does need to come out you may need to tear out the used one somehow and use a good hair drier on ones glued in and work out the glass - just a maybe that will work ok.

Laugh - try to do the learning where anything hidden is in the junkyard and not on the car you're keeping. Got the T-shirt on that stuff! Couldn't for the life of me figure out how a lense on something came off once till I broke one in a bone yard and it made itself apparent then - better than busting the one I was working on!

You'll get it. Just look hard at the one you are fixing before heading off to get the used one and have everything possible to remove one there. Good luck,

T

thanks tom, great advise, once again, your thinking with a level head, i didn't think of taking stuff to pry rubber with or the cordless drill, thanks again. Bruce
