This morning i went to take the parking brake off and now it seems to be stuck. I am wondering how I can fix this issue with the parking brake. Simple way of doing it the better. I am semi good at finding the problem as long as I am lead in the right area. Thanks. Are the rear brakes drum or disc? If drum, the shoes could be frozen to the brake drum(s). Could also be a frozen, or seized emergency brake cable. If the drum is frozen, you could take the tire off and warm it up with a hair dryer. If disc brakes, you could try removing the cable from the caliper and see if the wheel spins free. If it is not freezing where you are, more than likely you have an axle seal leaking gear oil into the brake area. Again, removal of the tire and brake drum will be required. Don't put the car in gear and force the issue. You may end up damaging the brakes and hardware. Unless you live on a hill, not a good idea to use the E. brake in freezing temps. The cable is loose and I dont know if removing it will help. Can the same thing apply to the disc emergency brake? Very possible that the cable is frozen (or seized) in the housing. (the actual cable runs through a metal housing in places, generally where it comes through the firewall). It's a bit of a pain, but you should be able to disconnect the cable from the affected caliper.
