I've recently had problems with my ciera having a rough idle and dying if left idle too long, like at a stop light. I changed the plugs and plug wires to no avail. last night on the way home I stopped at the store and it would not start. When I turn the key all i get is a click, and nothing. The dashboard lights up and that's it. Sometimes when it dies i feel a thump under the floor board, (catalytic converter?)

? Try for codes to see if there's any help there. "Thump as it stalls" is a clue (maybe) of a possible bad motor mount as it's rough when stalling and might bump exhaust pipe right then. That might go along with too much motor motion stressing out wiring a bit. Check at coil pack plug in but more interested in the single "click" when it stalled once? Suggests a common battery cable connection and think most of these used a remote Bat+ cable section then on to starter such that the battery (any connection of battery cables - both @ all ends) gets no periodic attention. This is a combo guess on your observations: Cables intermittent, motor mount bad and when it loses full connection with battery memory to computer is lost and it defaults to no memory of holding a good idle which it learns from several cycles of starts, warm ups and assorted driving should snap out of that when it has a good battery connection long enough and don't think it does. IAC cleaning would be in order and battery check and cable clean up along with checking motor mounts, T
