93 Accord doesn't always start Sign In

My 93 Honda Accord doesn't always start. Sometimes it pops right off; other times I have to try several times. It always turns over and acts like it will start, but then doesn't right away. Sometimes, even after trying a number of times, it just doesn't start. But, then if I try later in the day or the next day, it will. I've had it to two garages (one a Honda service station) and they don't know what the problem is. Also, it died on the road once--just all of a sudden quit running--and had to be towed. But, then it never acted up for the garage again. It has over 200,000 miles on it, but runs fine when started and running. Any ideas?

I have a 93 Accord that does exactly the same thing although it hasn't died on the road (knock on wood). Sometimes it fires right, sometimes it seems like it's about to start but then doesn't, other times the starter will just keep going and going with no start-up of the engine. I unplug and plug back in all the ignition wires which usually gets it going again. You might want to try this. I'm considering replacing all the ignition wires, perhaps the distributor cap and rotor, or sparkplugs. As the car is new to me I'm looking back through the records to see when these were replaced last. Have you been able to fix this problem yet?

Usually it's best to start your own thread for a new problem. It'll get more attention.

You want to check for spark & fuel to see what is missing when it's not starting.

Honda has a couple of common problems areas one being the distributor and the other the main relay. Both have very similar symptoms............

I've had the distributor replaced. That was not the problem. So, I'm not sure what I should have done next.

The other common problem on those is the main relay. The best way to check it would be to get a wiring diagram & check power feeds when the car is malfunctioning.........See if one is missing

You really shouldn't be hijacking the poster's question here. Start a new one.

The relay has been suggested by one garage if the car acts up when it's hot. But it doesn't matter--the problem occurs either hot or cold.
