92 toyota cressida oil leak

I have a 92 toyota cressida ,I've just replaced all seals and gaskets.Then I had oil leaking through the distributor, so I replaced it with another one. Now after two days later it started leaking too. I didn't detect any positive pressure on the crankcase. The distributor I used came out of a savage yard. Could the savage part be bad or do I have another problem I'm overlooking? I would appreciate any info. on this matter

Hey guys, I decided to try another disrtibutor. On top of this now I'm hearing a very dull tap at the head.This has double over head cams. I try upluging each plugwire to see if tone change , no change. The sound got louder when I blocked wheels put in gear.I took timming cover off to check belt its o.k. ,I did notice the cam on right side its center bolt has a slight wobble to it. Could a slight warp cam cause a dull tap or sticking lifter, is there any other way to check without taking head apart  ?

Dave - what's the overall sludge condition in this engine? The oil leaks suggest that the positive crankase ventilation (PCV as a system) can't overcome blowby. There should be an ever so little bit of vacuum if even checked at the dipstick tube. Most I find that don't are just plain worn out engines - or plugged up PCV and it means trouble either way,

Tom, theres been alot of talk about positive and negative pressure on these engines, with oil cap off I ran the car between 3 and 4 rpms no blow-by, there was vacumm there. I even tried to detect any with my hand. The engine was clean no sludge 168,000 far as milage. I think I just got a bad distr. ,the thing now its got a light tap in head ,the lifters are somewhat odd they they look like cups . Tom could a warp camshaft cause this noise

Lack of sludge is great news. I was thinking that like any engine a chunk of fudge blocks an oil passage and as you know whatever that lubed will wear out fast.
Warped cam?? : I would think bearings would be the issue - not sure how to verify that so easily. Is there a spot to check valve lash or slide a very thin feeler gauge under a rocker or somewhere while it's running to see if and adjustment might at least solve it for some unknown amount of time. I really don't know this engine well at all which isn't helping you much right now
Guys - any ideas?

I'm with you Tom....don't know this engine much at all...
Only thing I ran across from toy engine was the rocker arms slide on the rocker arm shaft...years ago use to see rocker get knocked off top of the valve area and cause a tap/tick sound...of course engine ran rough...
this was in the days when you could take off the oil filler cap and look in...usually the first rocker was knocked off
due to someone putting in oil with a funnel or oil can spout.....and being careless....
i think there is a shield in that area now to prevent this.....
but maybe during reassembly it occured ....i doubt i'm even in the ball park on the tap noise but i just wanted to share my thoughts....
i guess if there is a known wobble/warp thats definitely a place to start....

The reason I ask such a question about the cam, is I notice the cam pulley center bolt has a slight wobble to it. I realize that I'm gonna have to remove the valve cover to investigate .BTW these type of lifters have shims at the top I really dont like aluminum heads I'm going to check the arms and lifters , thanks guys, I will let you know about findings.

Tapping noise stopped checked out lifters o.k. don't know why it stopped. Just waiting for another distributor from my savage yard people.

It did, these cars are prone to leak with age.....the thing with crankcase pressure is also a issue (positive & negative)wtf....

I have a 92 Toyota Cressida that has excess oil
pressure in the crankcase. It blows gaskets and leaks
oil. The car from what I can see has no PCV valve, is
there something that took the place of the PVC valve
on this car?

I've been having the same problem of an excessive oil leak. Replaced the head gasket, cam seals, along with putting in a new distributor seal kit. But the oil leak persists. Anyone had luck fixing this?

These vehicle have a reputation for oil leaks, determine that the car has no blow-by first. The distributors can't be repaired only replaced....I went through 3 before I stopped the oil leak there which it was leaking from inside the cap, and I have notice several that the leaks were coming from lower intake gaskets and from the front head gasket....you can verify this by removing the rear timing plate behind the cam pulleys....far as the head gaskets when replacing them it wouldn't hurt to add 5 more ftlbs to the cylinder head bolts. The cressidas that I have repaired always had a pcv valve on the valve cover.

I was researching oil leaks on Cressidas and another forum mentioned that the PCV system can get plugged and it will cause oil leaks. One guy reported solving all his leaks by cleaning the system
