My mechanic tells me that my 1992 Honda accord has a hole in exhaust pipe A (the exhaust part that connects to the engine). Obviously the hold must be on the bottom side of the A pipe. The car did not fail inspection. But he claims that it is not good to drive with that during winter. The hot air that comes to passenger cabin is passed over the exhaust system to heat it up. Isn't the air flow into the passenger cabin isolated from exhaust ? otherwise I should have smelt the exhaust. Is it really dangerous that I should get it fixed right away ? Or can I wait till winter is over ?

Fix now. Winter or Summer makes no real difference - it's an exhaust leak that can allow carbon monoxide into cabin and that alone make no odor! Not safe to leave it especially since you hear it. Ya - heated air comes from away from exhaust but that's not good enough nor is just open windows. This could involve some expense. Get an idea of just how much needs to be replaced to fix this so you aren't in shock...... T
