91 ford escort cooling fan won't stop

I just bought a 91 ford escort gt last week. it was working fine up till yesterday. I go to get in and I realize that the battery is dead. I get myself a new battery and all is fine. later in the day I go out and find that the battery is half dead already. I pop open the hood and find that the cooling fan is still running. The only thing I can figure is this is what killed it the day before. I've tested it and the cooling fan stays on no matter if the car is cold or hot. The only way I can get it to stop right now is by pulling the relay in the fuse box under the hood. Can anyone tell me what might be my problem?

If the relay is stuck in the closed position, the fan will run constantly. You can try putting in a new relay. If that doesn't fix it, post back so we can go further.

I replaced the relay, and now the fan doesn't seem to run at all. I havn't had the time to drive it for very long. But the fan didn't kick on at all after driving for 30 mins. So I guess I'll just have to wait and see if it does kick on.

That may be normal but keep an eye on gauges and warning lights. If you have A/C just click it on and fan should run -- either that or the defrost setting.
The whole idea is for it not to work unless needed. I bet you are all fixed up, T

Thanx a lot. I just ran the A/C and it kicked on instantly, then when I turned it back off it went off. Thx for the help you two.
