91 GMC Sierra 1500 - Just get clicking when starting Sign In

Hi,

I'll be honest up-front: I'm not much of a car guy - my skills are more in the computer world. I'm alright with my hands, though and am willing to learn. I may not know all of your terms or where things are specifically, but can easily get pictures of under the hood to get clarification..

I went to start up the truck this morning and got a continual clicking while the key was turned. Probably 3-4 clicks/second... Maybe 5? Now, I've done some searching and have a handful of answers:
1) I've already checked, cleaned and tightened the battery contacts.
2) The battery is darn-near brand new - my receipt is dated June 24/09.
3) All lights, power locks, power windows are acting just fine both before and after trying to start it, though they dim during the clicking (Kinda like a flicker, lower light during the click, brighter in between them)
4) When the key is set to 'On', all of the dash lights, headlights and everything else come on just fine.
5) The headlights (if I've got them on) stay on during the attempt to start, but much like the internal lights they dim/flickr during the clicks, and are brighter in between them.

So - what do I try next? What else do you need to know from me?

91 GMC; The rapid clicking you describe is classic symptoms of low voltage. These batteries use the side mount type cables. If you remove the bolt that attaches the cable to the battery, look for corrosion in the cable. Clean both sides of the 'eyelet' that the bolt goes through, and clean any corrosion from the bolt, itself. Also, check, clean, and tighten the negative battery cable where it attaches to the engine block. Check tightness of the positive cable where it attaches to the starter. (do all this with the battery cables disconnected from the battery, of course). Good luck. And, even though the battery is new, don't disregard it as a possiblility.
