90 1500 Chevy Cheyenne Sign In

Hello, My name is John and I just bought a 1500 Chevy and I drove it home about 30 miles and it was overheating and the service engine soon light came on. I flushed the radiator and put new coolant in and it's leaking out the bottom in what seems to be a couple of different areas. I don't want to put a lot of money into this truck if it has a major problem. The truck idles pretty rough. I smell gas when I'm in the truck. The guy I bought it from told me he just kept putting water in to top off the fluids. Which now I see why he didn't put anti-freeze in bc it just leaks right out which he didn't tell me it had this kind of a leak. Any thoughts on this, I would appreciate your help.

you need to get the code for the ses light and find out what it is first. as for overheating, if the leak is bad enough id bet its overheating for 1 insufficient pressure and 2 its only using water. water will boil out and creat air pockets. the attempt of the cooling system to pressurize will only cause it to leak faster. and you may or may not be getting acurate temp readings. hopefully the temp sensor is getting readings from coolant temp not hot air, but since there is a leak you wont be sure. as for where its leaking there are multiple spots lower rad hose, and waterpump come to mind first for lower engine area. check things out and give us some more details and we will see what we can do.

This truck has a lot of problems and you are going to put a lot of money into it. You bought a truck needing an engine. This ones gone. It sounds like you were mislead on the purchase of this truck. If you can return it do so and run away.
