89 Plymonth Reliant 2.2 ovewr 100000 miles

Car idles really high when starting, then settles some, but while driving it chugs really hard. Chugs like jerks forward hard. Reminds me of a belt slipping, but thats not the problem. Then started about 2 wks ago, but as of 3 days ago had to park it. can you help? We have replace spark plugs and wires, distitor cap, and rotor button. But that didnt help.
