when i am driving down the road the car just stops like its not gettin any gas but if it sits awhile it starts up i dont think it is the fuel filter because it doesnt sputter or anything when it dies it just dies

This could be a lot of things. It would help if you can catch it not running and see if it's fuel or spark missing. Bring starter fluid and whatever you like to test spark and you would need a helper if alone that would be tough. It might be missing both and just do your best to observe anything. If no codes to help this will be hard to pin point when it just starts up again and runs fine
