86 AND 87 Toyota stalls

Hey guys, here is a stumper. I have 2, 1987 Toyota trucks 22R engines W/ carbs. One I have had for several years. It has always tried to die when the thermostat opens. It only does it one time and then runs fine the rest of the day, I have gotten used to it I just figured it was a sensor or something. Imagine my surprise when I bought the other truck to find that it does the same thing.The only difference in the two is, one has an automatic tranny.The previous owner of the second truck says it has done that for many years and it didn't bother him anymore either.
Any suggestions???
