300 6 cyl runs at high idle Sign In

I have a 1994 ford f-150, 300 cu in 6 cyl, 4spd standard trans, 205,000 km. I am having problems with a high idle. When engine is started -hot or cold- it will run at a high idle for 3 to 4 seconds or more before idling down to normal idle. If I let out clutch and put a load on the engine and then disengage clutch engine will stay at high idle for 3 to 4 seconds. If in heavy traffic for example, and I let out clutch to move forward a few feet and then disengage clutch engine will again stay at high idle almost as if I had my foot on the throttle. The gas pedal seems to be returning to position okay. I recall having this repaired some years ago but can not rememberwhat was done, I think it may have had something to do with a gasket being replaced. I do remember thinking at the time I could have done that for a lot less myself. If you could give me a hint to the fix required I am sure it will jog the old memory to what was done before.

You may have a bad IAC ( idle air control) but try eliminating any vacuum leaks, make sure the temp sensor is accurate and cleaning the throttle body first. Remove the intake snorkel, have someone hold the throttle wide open for you and scrub the back side of the throttle plate and surrounding bore with an old tooth brush and some carb cleaner. Be sure to spray some into the small holes next to the throttle plate. That should help stabilize the idle. If it still has a problem, replace the IAC.
