2010 hyundai genesis coupe burning smell

Hey guys, new member here hoping for some insight into my issue. A few days ago I drove home and parked and could smell this burning smell. Sort of like rubber or oil or something I can't really tell.
I only smell the burning when I come to a red light while driving. If I start the car and let it warm up I don't smell it though. I tried turning the heat off on my drive home and didn't smell it yesterday. Does anyone have any guesses? Coolant level hasn't changed at all and I checked and the oil seems ok. I don't have any puddles on the ground either. I read it could be the valve cover gasket maybe?

? If nothing dripping and no fluids low you'll have to look for an area that isn't right. Doesn't always take much to make a lot of odor.
Look just anyway at exhaust parts that might have evidence of something dripping up to a plastic shopping bag (it's happened) burning up on a hot exhaust part and about gone by now and if really something like that just scrape off what you can,

So quick update. I took it in for an oil change and I had been a bit overdue, probably a few thousand km over. When the tech pulled my oil cap off there was a bit of waxy residue on the cap that he said can happen from being over due and likely that's the source of the smell. There were no leaks underneath the car in any check I did or the tech did. Hopefully this all it is.

Oil change person sounds a little green.
Common to see waxy residue underneath an oil cap from the moisture that evaporates from inside the crankcase as the engine gets hot. The crankcase vapors are collected back into the intake and shouldn't be venting off into the atmosphere anyhow.

Well sh1t! I have an appointment to take it in to a mechanic to try to figure out the cause but the smell is not that strong as the first day. The first day I smelled it I had started it up and drove without letting the car warm up really but since then haven't done that. I can't find any leaks or spots anywhere :S

With the engine running and hot, drip a tiny bit of engine oil, you can wipe off from the dip stick, onto the exhaust manifold. See if the smell is the same as what you were smelling.

I tried to do that, it's pretty cold where I live and the roads are crap but I tried to go for a bit of a drive. Dropped a bit of oil on the engine and it unfortunately didn't get hot enough to really burn the oil. But, there was some oil on top of the engine this time, I took a pic and will try to upload it

If I had to take a wild guess, that is a zoomed in view of the top of the throttle body?

I believe so, I really don't know too much about cars to be honest, I had a better picture but it was too big to upload to this site lol :(

You can resize your pics using microsucks paint. Click the resize/skew in the tool bar and resize them 50% or less.
3.8L looks like. Don't see how oil from a leaking valve cover gasket could make it all the way to the top of the throttle body.

Not really sure on what that leak is or where it is coming from. If you look into the throttle body with someone pushing the accelerator to the floor with the key on engine off, do you see lots of oil in the manifold or see lots of oil in the intake duct? You'll probably need a flash light.

Just take off the black hose and have someone push the accelerator to the floor and have a look in that way?

Ya the big black duct. Look for oil inside the ducting to. The inside of the throttle bore could be full of oil because of some type of issue with the PCV system. Just a guess.

Took the hose off today and had someone push on the gas. It opened up just a bit, no oil in there that I could see. As well the hose was clean

IDK - This could just be some spilt oil from filling it up or something and will just go away on it's own. Can't know now but doesn't seem like a source area for oil especially since now you don't see any inside?
Could clean it with some carb cleaner but would smell that too I think for a while. If just a spill it should quit it when run for a good long run fully warmed up,

It's not a spill because I hasn't even lifted the hood to do anything when the smell started. I only got the oil changed this weekend so I'm really not sure about what is going on

Not sure how to help. Looked again at your pic and it seems it's not an active leak right there but also cold time of year so engine exterior doesn't get so hot and might just for a while depending on how you drive for how long?
Nothing shows up as a drip or fluid going low. Pay attention anyway to levels and or take it to some place that can really get a good look around.
It's already been said that it doesn't take much to make an odor. It's when one doesn't go away for some time that has no clear reason you seek it out. The tiny drop mentioned it wasn't warm enough. It would be if you had just driven it more or faster exhaust gets quite hot at sustained higher speeds especially.
Also - don't be so late on oil changes anymore just because it's not a good thing to let go anyway and I can't know if once is a reason. I would consider its use the more often (harsher conditions schedule listed in owner's manual) they list as an interval as most are. Anything cold weather, hot weather, lots of idling, stop and go driving, dusty conditions and more put a vehicle in that category and throw in time. Most want at least every 3-6 months at the longest regardless of miles/kms especially if parked outdoors a lot,

I appreciate all the input you've given me. It's confusing. I popped the hood and smelled everywhere I could. I smelled the brake fluid and I believe that's the smell I could be smelling inside the car. I then went to each tire and smelled there to see if it's the brakes that smell but they don't, and the fluid is fine :S

Knowing exact odors what product makes is OK but limited. Odors can get inside cabin from engine and exhaust parts too and not all the time.
It's bugging you with little more evidence so it's time to get it checked out is about all I can suggest now,
