2009
Ford
Fiesta
1.4
12,000

My partner had purchased a new bulb to fit into his headlight and tried to open the bonnet this morning. The bonnet release catch (inside the car) doesn't seem to be working. It isn't popping the bonnet up. He has tried (with a friend) putting gentle pressure on the bonnet whilst pulling the lever but nothing is working. He is hesitant to be too rough with the in car lever as he doesn't want to damage it.
He popped down the local Ford garage this morning but they want to charge him quite alot to have a look at it.

He is happy to pay out............well there is no choice really........but we thought we would ask around and see if anyone has experienced this problem before and knows of a solution.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Emily

This can be common and so far you are doing what I would suggest which is "gently" pushing down on "bonnet" (hood) while pulling the release lever. I would be careful as metal isn't what it used to be but try that again with all caution not to dent the bonnet but with more force and quickly let it go to the first pop up then open.

ONCE OPEN - Seriously look at latching mechanism and lube it up. It should be able to trip as if locked to test that it is free again or may find if you get it open something is so bad it needs replacement.

Just use caution if it somehow opens and doesn't close all the way again to get it fixed. Use rope/line of some sort such that it can't open by mistake while driving.

Love your accent even in printCool

Have someone hold the lever up while someone else gives the hood a a quick pound with a closed fist right at the front edge (not hard enough to dent it) and see if it pops up then.

Thanks very much for the suggestions. We have tried and still nothing. We have called in a favour from a friend of a friend who has had a quick look. From what he has seen it looks like the cable has come loose at the bonnet end of the car. They have spent the last 2 hours trying to get a grasp on the cable but it's not very accessible from the front of the car.
Look like we will have to pop it into the garage for them to sort it out. No amount of pounding, punching and pulling is going to release the bonnet! Just out of warranty too! Typical! :)

Thanks again!

Can you take the grill off this with the hood down? I've had success on other models getting in that way and moving the latch with a screwdriver.
