2008 zafira squeeking Noise (forwards only)

I havea 2008 Vauxhall Zafira (diesel) and it make a "clunking noice" when pulling away from stationary. There is now a high pitched squeel from the front of the car even at very low speed. The noise is only there when moving forwards, not reverse. Are there any quick checks I can do - my wife gave birth 2 weeks ago and we need to stay mobile!!

A maybe that you could check with a helper:
Try with hood open, engine running and a helper you trust to hold the brakes - put in forward then reverse and watch how far motor and trans mounts move while fighting the brakes just enough to torque on the engine. You might even see something rubbing Best to do this in a safe spot and stand to side of car while watching in case it take off! Good luck,
