2007 Ford Fusion rough idle at start up. Please help! Sign In

I have a 2007 Ford Fusion 4 cly 2.3 and have changed the air filter and cleaned the fuel injectors. The car has 34,568 miles on it and has run very well in the past. After getting the car back and letting it sit in garage I tried starting it up after 3 hours and have the rough idling back.

Went to Auto Zone and they said that since my check engine light is not on their check would not work.

The car runs fine after about 5 minutes but will not idle and feels like it is stalling when put in reverse.

Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on what or where I should do next. Please help.

Thank you!

That's nonsense. If the light has been on in the past, the code will be stored in memory as long as no one has erased it. If the light has never been on, then there will be no code to find.

Thanks for the reply.

The check engine light never came on even in the past. Any ideas on repairs.

Pull the EGR valve and see if it has a chunk of carbon holding it open.

Hammer time,

If I drive the car to the dealership and it warms up I don't have the problem. Unfortunately, my three years expired before my 36,000 so its out of warranty.

Do you think it will cost big bucks at the dealership and can they troubleshoot wwith out a check engine light on. The car runs fine after 5 minutes but runs terrible with a cold start up.

Any suggestions will help.

Thanks again.

I'll check the EGR value.

I appreciate the advice.

As long as they cann duplicate the problem, they will be able to diagnose it.

Hey Hammer Time,

As I backed the car out the check engine light came on. I brought it up to Auto Zone and they found Code PO302: Cylinder misfire detected on cylinder number 2.

Probable cause: ignition system, fault-spark plug, ignition wires, coil.

Would you replace the spark plug or wires? The coil is 100 bucks but they do not carry it. I tried to buy plugs but they do not carry Motorcraft plugs or wires.

Is there one item you would think was the problem? Any suggestions.

I thank you for your time and assistance.

Steve

That would depend on how many miles are on the parts that are in there now. It's accumulated resistance so more than one thing can contribute.

Your car doesn't have any plug wires so I would change all the plugs and the one coil from that cylinder.

Great!

I'll get motorcraft plugs and a coil in the morning.

Thanks for the advice.

Have a great night.
