2007 Corolla Sign In

Hi,

I took my 2007 Corolla in for some routine maintenance this morning and was told that someone had damaged the windshield fluid pump. I'd noticed it didn't work the last time I tried to use it but thought maybe I was just out of fluid.

Anyone know if this damage could have been done during an oil change? Maybe I'm grasping at straws but can't imagine it would have been a random act of vandalism. Too weird. The only thing I can think of is it being done at the 10-minute oil change joint.

Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

Mad I wouldn't think there's a bunch of thugs out to vandalize washer motor pumps either - such a new car - what's with this? Is it directly in the path of some common service at reservoir, in-line or on wiper motor - don't know where for this car.

Can YOU see the damage? Could it have frozen and cracked? Most don't for some reason even with plain water in them??

Re: 2007 Corolla Sign In

Hi,

Thanks a lot for the reply.

Hmmm...the guy said it had been "physically damaged," but we did have a couple of nights this winter with wind chills of -20 and -25 below. Could that have caused it to crack? Their description of it ("physically damaged") seemed very odd. I figure they would've known if it had cracked due to the cold.

I'll call them on Monday but now my curiosity about how this happened has gotten the better of me. I've never had a problem with my oil change place but did take it to W**Ma** last time. : ) Just thought they might have done it.

If you have any other theories let me know. Thanks!

It shouldn't matter the brand name of the place you deal with. It's the tech on the job that really counts not the name on the door for chain places.

What is it doing now. Does any noise get to the pump? Where is that pump - I just don't know. Look for it and see what the damage is - it's somewhere on the tank or at the wiper motor of course.

Wind chills don't cause water to freeze but are the chilling effect. Windy 32.00000001 F. is still above freezing and engine temps hold temp longer even overnights.

If it makes no noise attempting to pump then check for power getting to the pump. I've seen plenty freeze solid, make noise and when warmed up work again with no leaks - to me that's strange - I would think it would crack open - plastic parts don't usually.

This is fairly new. You need to see what happened I guess. Frozen would be your fault and broken hard to pin down now but you need to see what's broken!
