2007 Chevy Trailblazer Fuel Gauge

Hello i have a 2007 Chevy Trailblazer LS with a 4.2L I6. My fuel gauge goes to E everytime i fill it up. Most of the time it will stay on E and i have to go off of my miles to guess how much gas i have left. I have seen many posts saying that it could be the fuel sending unit. I was wondering if anyone else had anyother ideals what it could be and also if it is the fuel sending unit could it cause any other issues other than the gauge being incorrect. Thank you for the help in advance.

Why are you still asking. You already read multiple posts telling you it is most likely a bad sender. Of course there are other things that can fail. Test the sending unit.

I was asking to see if anyone knew what the sending unit could cause to mess up.

Best thing to do is to have someone with an enhanced scan tool go into the PCM datastream and see what the full level percentage is when the gauge is showing empty. If fuel level percentage matches what the gauge is reading when the gauge is showing empty, more than likely the sender is the culprit. If the fuel level percentage is different than the gauge, the cluster should be suspect.
The PCM needs to know what the fuel level in the gas tank is to run the EVAP monitor.

Or you could just ground the purple wire at the sender to see if the gauge jumps to full to indicate a bad sender as everybody suspects.

If you short the purple wire to ground, the PCM will set P0462 and the gauge will go to empty by default. Doesn't work like the old senders because the PCM is monitoring sender circuit voltage on those like it would a TPS sensor. The PCM sends the information to the cluster, so any opens or shorts in the sender card or circuit is going to make the gauge go E due to the PCM's logic.
It's easier to look at the datastream and watch the fuel level percentage to see if the PCM is seeing the correct fuel level when the gauge is empty to determine if you should be checking out the sender circuit or the gauge cluster. To check the sender circuit best thing to use is a known good sender tapped into the sender circuit and a scan tool.
Sender codes won't turn the check engine light on either, so you should have your PCM scanned to see if any of those codes are being stored. An intermittent loss of signal from the fuel level sender will set a P0464 code in the PCM.
