2007 Chevy Malibu Antilock Brake System question Sign In

I own a 2007 Chevy Malibu LS. Whenever I have pushed on my brakes especially at higher speeds, my steering wheel and brake pedal always have shook severely. I always thought it was my rotors and planned on replacing them as soon as I could. About three weeks ago my brakes began to squeal when putting on my brakes no matter what the speed. I took my car into the dealership to get my brakes checked out before replacing them, and they stated I had over 2/3'rds of my brake pad left, and my rotors were not warped. They stated that if the shaking is fine but if it got to annoying to handle they could turn the rotors for me. They stated the 'singing' is from the type of pads they use that it accumulates a film across them and the hotter it is outside the more it will sing. It seems to me that the 'shaking' has gotten worse since I got the car 2 years ago. I asked my family member and he stated that is just my antilock brake system turning on. (my previous cars never had it that i know of)

What I am trying to figure out is if it indeed is my ABS system? How much shaking is bad since it does seem very severe at least to me? Would you recommend any specific areas for me to get checked out? Or is this just completely normal? Thanks!

NO! The shaking is NOT fine, nor is it normal! I believe I would seek out another professional opinion. If the shaking got too annoying to handle, it is distracting from your driving. That in itself is danderous. Steering wheel and brake pedal shaking severly is your car telling you it requires attention. Please get it reinspected.

CH is right. That is not the answer I would ever expect to hear from a dealer. The pulsation is not only annoying but it's hammering away at all the steering components and will lead to premature failure of them. Squeeling can come for many different reasons and is a common battle with brakes but it's not normal by any means and can be corrected by someone that knows what they are doing. It's time to replace the rotors and replace the pads with a high quality ceramic pad. There are also other procedures to be done during the installation that will minimize the possibility of noises.
