2006 Pontiac Mantana SV6 Engine Size unknown, V6? lol 50,000 miles almost Hey guys, I had a lot of good luck last time I posted here so I thought I would shoot another issue out to ya for some help. We bought this car with 4k miles (dealer car) and this issue with the brakes popped up near when we replaced the tires if I can recall correctally. We bought new kumo tires for the car a while back. The problem is the car sorta shakes when the brakes are applied. It feels like there is a flat sorta regular thumping, and the car seems to shake. When comming to a stop at as stop light, you can apply the brakes lightly letting the car roll to a stop and it feels like you are going over a little hump, then down the hump, kinda lithe the feel of a flat tire but very small We get the tires rotated, and this doesn't solve the problem. Could my brake pads or shoes be going bad or something, it is nearing 50k miles. Hope you guys can help. Thanks in advance.

It sounds like your frt rotors got warped. If the shop you went to doesn't torque wheels & just rattles them down with an impact gun then the odds are high thats where it happened. If your park brk has a release handle your can verifiy the problem by driving at slow speeds & use the park brk to slow the vehicle, if the vibration is gone, it's in the frt rotors. (you pull out on the release handle the whole time so the park brk won't set but act as a secondary brk pedal) If you park brk is the style that use push the pedal to set & then push to release, don't try this method

Although I do agree that your problem is rotor distortion, I wouldn't be too quick to blame the technician installing the wheels. The type of rotors used on that vehicle are pretty much immune to over torquing distortion and 99% of the time, this is caused by overheating and rapid cooling, usually from aggressive braking and water puddles although the severe formation of rust on the braking surface will give the same result. . Your best solution at this point is to just replace the front pads and rotors.
