2006 Pontiac Grand Prix running warm

2006 Pontiac Grand Prix
v6 motor
75,000 Miles
All of a sudden it has started running on the warm side.. Does it have a thermostat?
Any ideas on where to start sorting this issue out?

It has a thermostat. Check the coolant level for starters. If warm where you are make sure fan(s) come on for radiator.
Is temp staying steady at a new mark on gauge but within norms or truly reading high?

it runs warm it does go to the upper just before the red on the gauge and then drops like the thermostat is sticking.. cooolant is full

Ok - does the fan or fans come on? Does it return to a normal reading by itself or only when moving along?
Thermostats can stick but it's not that common IMO,

somtimes it drops back down on its own
Other times it does not drop down until the car is moving and the fan does work

If it alway drops just when fan is working then the sensor might be late. Typical sensors trigger fan when they sense about 170F or so.
When cold - try to see the coolant level in the radiator. I don't think this has a cap on the radiator but just a recovery tank and marks on the side. You'll need to squeeze (while cold/cool/ NO PRESSURE!) the radiator hose while watching the recovery tank if there's no cap on radiator itself. Look for bubbles coming up in recovery tank. If that passes then start the car and feel the upper radiator hose (CAREFULLY - IT GETS HOT ENOUGH TO CAUSE BURNS) at the radiator end away from moving parts.
It should stay cold till temp needle reaches what is its usual norm operating temp. If it can read a higher warm on gauge and hose is still cold then we can talk thermostat. An infrared thermometer to verify the real temp.
Heater should be a good indicator of the engine temp as well as long as it's not way overheating. That you can feel temp changes by hand and when at the same request (use low fan) it should be about the same once at operating temps.
So - If known full of coolant and there really is a temp swing and fan(s) seem to come on at the right time then a thermostat replacement would be a good idea. It's about the time for a coolant change anyway so I'd go ahead and flush it out too.
