2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Clicking noise (NOT battery/starter issue)

My 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo w/ 3.5 V6 and approx. 80,000 miles has begun to make a clicking sound. I have only had the issue (so far) after using the stock remote start function. Remote start functions properly as far as I can tell, car starts beautifully. Once I get into the car and insert my key, a mechanical sounding, rapid clicking starts behind the center console. If started w/o remote start, problem has not popped up yet. The rapid clicking lasts for approx 2 mins. Adjusting where the air blows seems to reset the sound, pausing it for a couple seconds before starting again and continuing for approx 2 mins. When the clicking starts, I can shut off the car, remove the key, and open the door to kill the residual radio/electronic feature, but the clicking will continue for the normal time. Shutting the car off remotely and restarting also seems to reset the duration of the noise. Any ideas as to what my problem is?

Could be a mode door actuator for the blower case making noise. When you select which vents for the HVAC air to blow out, does the air blow out the selected vents? You may have to get under the dash and listen where the noise is the loudest. The mode door actuator is located on the side of the HVAC case under the passenger's side dash. Sometimes you can put your finger on the actuator in question and feel the ticking in your finger. The actuators are electronic motorized servos that move the air doors in the HVAC case. This is what the mode door actuator looks like: Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

That was my first thought too. When different air modes are selected, the air does blow properly. I was hoping i didn't have to crack open that console, because it really doesn't look fun. Any other thoughts before I try?

1st, sorry for not reading completely. 2nd, at 6'4 and 300lbs, it takes more than a couple shots to make that fun. I identified the location of the sound to the best of my ability. It is coming from the driver side of center rather than passenger. The object making the noise is the black, mickey mouse silhouette item near the center of the photo. The 'ears' of mickey point directly up, and it is located about level with the bottom of the dash, maybe slightly lower. What am I dealing with here?

The photo really helps...thanks That is the left temperature door actuator. It's a small world after all. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Thank you gentlemen. The parts will be ordered once I play with the old one and make sure I can't get it to work a while longer. I'll check back in later and tell what works.
