2005 Shogun - centre diff light and oil leak Sign In

my 2005 SWB Mitsubishi shogun (3.2 manual, 95k) had the centre diff light flash orange whenever I tried to engage 4wd. A week later I heard a thudding noise underneath (there was nothing dragging but sounded like it) while i exited the dual carriageway. I had my friend look at it and a seal has gone and it is leaking alot of oil. he has topped up oil and i got it home ok. Only bought it end of august. Am i covered for repair under sales of goods act? Will the repair be costly?

If your warranty covers a car 8 model years old it would be covered. Most likely it doesn't. We don't have that car here in the US so I don't have any tech info on it, but we have similar things here and if its just an oil seal on an output shaft it shouldn't be too expensive to fix. It will be very expensive if it isn't. You'll need to get it looked at by a pro to find out if driving it low on oil has done any damage to your transfer case.

I'm not sure what the laws are in your neck of the woods but over here any used car sale is "as is" unless a specific warranty is implied...
Meaning the car could blow up on you the next day and unless it was a problem you could prove the seller knew about & hid from you, you would be out of luck.
