2005 Barina chugging noise and engine light

driving along, after 10 mins or so car started making a chugging noise and when i depressed the accelorator pedal it didn't rev up - just stayed chugging at a slow pace. Little engine icon on dash above steering wheel lit up - just wondering if this is related to oil levels or something more serious. Just my luck, the car ran out of warranty in august and i've never had a problem with it!

Hey - Oil levels are serious! I don't know this exact car but the light is either indicating a code is stored or an engine problem not known yet. Owner's manual will tell what the light means. Amber lights are usually mild warning indicators and red ones mean serious bussiness.
Check all fluids now. Tow it if necessary to prevent further damage,
