My Car Has Been Recently Having Problems, First Off It Takes A Couple Cranks To Start, And It Could Be The Problem... I Looked Up A TSB And It Says That The Battery Cable Needs To Be Cleaned And The Bolts On It Need To Be Replaced, I Was Thinking About Doing That When All Of The Sudden Tonight I Started My Car And Put It In Drive Then Hit The Gas And The Car Just Kept Jerking Back And Forth, Like It Didnt Know Whether To Go In Drive Or Reverse, I Put It In Park Then Drive Again And It Did The Same Thing.... Then I Turned It Off, Then Back On (took 2 Times To Turn It On) Then It Worked Fine... Could That Have Been Caused By My Battery Or What? Or Is My Transmission Going Out? Or Maybe Both? I Need Some Advice..thanks

check the battery condition both at the cables and at the posts or terminal ends. Load test and make sure it can maintain above 9.5volts, then scan the PCM for codes. Diagnose the codes accordingly.
It sounds like two seperate issues, the first being a no start, either it cranks and does not start, or it clicks?? You did not say. If it cranks but does not start for a few minutes, test the fuel pressure and see if you have less than 60 psi. The fuel pump may be weak and not putting out the proper pressure, or you could have a bad fuel pressure regualtor and or a clogged filter.
If all of these pass inspections, the next time you go to start it cold, turn the key to run, DO NOT CRANK just turn it to run, then after 30 seconds shut the ket off for 30 seconds, again turn to run for 30 seconds and off again for 30 seconds, NOW start the car. If it starts right up, chances are the issue is a fuel starvation issue.
if it still does not start, check for spark when you are cranking cold. The issue could be a crank sensor. The 3.8 has had allot of issues with crank sensors.
As far as the tranmission, check the fluid level and the color and smell the fluid, if it is dark brown or smells burnt then this is a transmission that needs to be serviced,. If however the trans fluid is light pink like pepto bismol, you could have water in the transmission. If it is red and smells like trans fluid, then the transmission is in normal operating range. I have not seen a trans go in and out of drive into reverse, slippage out of drive is just that, out of drive, but I have never seen one go from a forward gear into reverse.
That sounds more like a TCC lock up issue from stop like trying to take off in fourth gearm this feels like a shudder and tries to stall. Or it could be a missfire under load or acceleration. The key is to diagnose with a scan tool Like the Tech 2, other wise you are ulitamately guessing at any number of probable causes, each having their own solutions. I think you might want to consider taking this to a shop where you know the Technician or Mechanic and have him diagnose this issue.

the easiest way to try to squeeze better gas mileage out of any vehicle is to make sure that the air filter is clean and you can see daylight through it, that the PCV valve is working freely, that the fuel filter is clean with no restrictions, and that you keep the oil changed regularly. If you have not done so, I recommend cleaning your throttle body, and your induction and injection system All of these things can give you not only better performance but greatly improve your gas mileage. The air filter and fuel filter alone is going to give you a very noticeable difference. Most cars past 1995 have 100,000 mile platinum plugs that generally last every bit of the 100,000 if you are not sure if they have been serviced that and the wires are a good preventative maintenance item, but are also exspensive. Plugs can run 5.00-6.00 each, and wires I recommend AC/Delco on both, can run around 50-60.00
