A friend from church has a 2004 Hyundai Sonota. On 4/15/2007 at 54,000 miles she took the car into the dealership and got new tires (Michelin), a front wheel brake job and and 4 wheel alignment. This week at 66,000 miles she asked me to look at her tires as she said the "rear end feels like its swinging all over". The front tires look new tread wise but the rear tires are wearing from the inside (not really noticeable) to the outside (it's completely bald already!). My immediate reaction is the alignment was done wrong.
She is sweet as can be but naive as well so I am going to go to the dealer with her and see what they say. Does anyone think the alignment was done wrong as well or could it be something else? I'm curious if the dealer will say its not their problem but am hoping they admit the error and replace the rear tires free. I just know there's no way an accident free car could wear tires like that so quickly after having an alignment only 11,000 miles ago.
How should I present this to the dealer for resolution?

Something probably went real wrong with the alignment job. That's very early for a tire to wear out. If a part that involves the alignment has broken it could be an arguement as to who broke it. If the rear was adjusted that far off by mistake I'm surprised it behaved well all this time since the alignment. You will have to trust this place that did the work as to what they find and why it could be like that.

This very well could be unsafe to drive and all discretion should be used if it is driven now to even get it checked out,

T
