2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo
The truck began fishtailing last year. Funny thing is, if you keep your foot on the gas, the truck stays straight...when you let up on the gas, the rear of the truck appears to fishtail, at least that was my impression last year. Now, I would say that the front end pulls to the right. I asked my trusted mechanic about this and he was perplexed, finally suggesting we start with a 4 wheel alignment. Next visit, they hooked her up to the alignment machine and it was spot on...no adjustment needed! Now I have 2 mechanics scratching their heads. Finally, I called the local Jeep dealership and spoke to the repair division. Again, confusion...the only suggestion they had was drop it off and we'll take our time going through it until we find out what's wrong. I don't have that kind of cash or patience. I would love to have some idea of where to head next. Thanks for your time!

Was there any event that happened preceding this handling problem or it just started out of the blue one day?
With any problem I like to start with the basics..... Start off with a good frt & rear inspection of all the tires & pressures, frt end parts and rear bushings & arms. Rotate the tires to see if that makes any kind of difference, maybe even cross them....
You said you had an alignment done. I would like to see the printout and in particular what the rear thrust angle is at...........
The biggest problem here is not being able to drive the vehicle, that makes it triple tough in diagnosing a handling problem....

Okay, starting with the basics... I never did connect any event with this handling problem, just noticed it slowly...I haven't had an accident in 15 years, so that couldn't be it. Prior to the alignment, I had the steering pump replaced, but the problem was occurring both before and after that repair, so that wasn't it. When the Jeep was in for the alignment, my mechanic rotated the tires and checked the pressure in all of them. I'm not sure if there was a printout of the alignment, although I remember seeing the equipment readings...I will double check my paperwork on the printout, if not, then maybe the saved the readings at the garage...Also, when in for the alignment, Joe (my mechanic) went through and checked everything within reach and sight, and I remember specifically that he mentioned checking the bushings within sight...only a couple not having been checked.
I greatly appreciate you taking the time to help me address this issue!! Don't know where you are located, pertaining to driving the vehicle, but I'm in southern Maine.
