Hi guys. Got a 04 CVPI and it will die after driving for 4 or more hours on patrol. It starts stumbling, dash warning lights come on and then it dies. We replaced all coils and plugs to eliminate backfeeding the PCM and shutting it down. When it dies, sometimes it starts right back up, other times the check engine light will not come on and vehicle will crank but no start. After it sits for a little while(more than 20 minutes) check engine light comes back on and it starts back up. Called dealer and ordered PCM today just shooting in the dark. We have checked all wiring, adderssed all TSB's that stated dying. Just wondering if we are looking too deep and cant see the forest. We have had a few others do this and they all have been COPs backfeeding the PCM. There is no check engine light, fuel pressure is steady at 44 with key on, 33 when it is running. Thanks for any input or beers you can buy me.

Hey guys. Sorry I forgot to post the fix on this thing. We found out when the vehicle would not start, we lost the 5 volt reference. Checked everything, unplugged everything we could find. Plugged everything back in and car started and ran. Died in 5 minutes and would not restart. Started unplugging sensors again and monitored the reference voltage. Finally unpluggef fuel level input sensor and 5 volt reference came back, vehicle started. Replaced sensor in last week of July and vehicle has not returned. There were no codes, all sensors were within normal parameters. We used Ford's PDS scan tool to monitor the sensors and read parameters. So I guess that the theory thing is tossed out the window again. It is another case of luck is better than knowledge sometimes. Later guys.
