2004 Toyota Avalon After I returned from work I noticed a piece of metal where my car was earlier parked. I was hoping someone might be able to tell me if this is indeed a part of my car or something else. Thanks in advance.

Exhaust damper. The part that broke off was welded to the exhaust pipe before the muffler. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Thank you for your speedy response. What is the purpose of the damper? Is it to reduce noise or vibrations or something else?
