2003 malibu will not start

I came home from work everything was fine, a half an hour later I went to leave and my car would not start and did not even make a turn over sound.
The rpm, and speedometer went up and sometimes randomly i would here like turn signal clicking noise and the floor lights would sometimes turn on.
An hour later I went back and absolutely nothing happened.
I'm thinking the battery, alternator, possibly a shortage, or something else electrical??
If anyone has any ideas please let me know. It is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

How old is the battery?
Areas of trouble to start with would be the side terminals of the battery cables if never cleaned and greased they probably are a trouble spot.
Will it take a charge such that you can test battery, start it and test charging system?
