i have a 03 pontiac gtp. randomly, the engine wouldnt start.. if i wait like ten minutes(its taken longer before) and keep trying..it'll start again..its happened serveral times now, and even the guys at the shop and at the dealership i take too, cant diaginost it for certain unless it happens then!!??
now and then, i'll be driving and the car just dies. the steering wheel is stiff (as if the car was off) and eveything goes out, radio, lights..? what is the cause of this? my car is over 130,000 miles. i recently replaced the cat converter, i change the oil when it does need it..i keep up w/the car,(reg maint.) but somehow, this is the only problem that keeps coming and going..please help! im frustrated! ur prompt respond and advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Nobody is going to be able to tell you what's wrong with your car without some testing done during the failure. I can tell you how to troubleshoot the problem but if you can't do it while it's dead, then everything is going to test good.

Well is sounds like you have an obvious power supply issue. Intermittens can be tough to track down. When you say the engine wouldn't start for 10 minutes... I'm assuming you had no power & nothing.... no cranking?
To lose everything like that you are probably going to be looking at some main power feeds or ground circuits.... The very 1st thing to do is check the battery..... Batterys last in the range of 3 to 7 years (some more, some less), if yours still has the factory battery I would be tempted to change it just to eliminate it (I won't get into how much time I've lost tracing down problems that turnned out to be bad batterys that test good) After that, it's probably going to be doing some voltage drop test on the power & ground ciruits to see if there is any excessive resistance...... A problem like this might be better off going to a shop that is strong in electrical work.........
