Sign In Hello, I have a 2003 Toyota Camry and took my car in for maintenance. The mechanic wants to charge me $700 for a few items and I want to make sure it's legitimate. He says I need new front brakes even though they are at level 3 and are not squeaking. Also, he says the top engine mount needs to be replaced. Are these items necessary and worth this cost? Sign In Well both the brake pad set and engine mount are things even an untrained eye can tell if they are worn out. If you could take the front wheels off, you could see the pads leaning againts a polished surface called a disk. if they still have atleast 1/8ths of carbon based padding, then you should be doing alright, as for the mounting, they are a lot easier to tell.
