2003 Montana Accessory Inflator lamp flashes after replacing leveling sensor Sign In

After hearing a thumping from under the minivan, I discovered the load leveling sensor was broken, dangling and bouncing off the road. I've replaced it, but now when I run the accessory inflator, the light in the switch flashes rapidly. The owner's manual says that this means that the compressor is overheating and will shut off automatically. But it doesn't shut off, and the light flashes as soon as I turn on the inflator, so it really shouldn't be overheating. The inflator seems to work (filled bicycle tires to 50psi in reasonable time).

After first discovering the broken sensor, the vehicle was driven a couple of times for about 10-15 minutes, then the sensor was taped back together to keep it from banging. Then the vehicle was driven twice for about 55 miles. The sensor was completely disconnected from the electrical cable and the vehicle was driven twice for about 5 miles.

I understand that the load leveler and the accessory inflator use the same compressor. So I'm wondering if I needed to do another step when replacing the leveling sensor, like resetting it or calibrating it. Does anyone know if there is something that needs to be done after replacing the sensor?

An alternative is that while the load leveling sensor was broken, the compressor ran too much and damaged itself. Is there some way to determine if this is the case?

Is the LED flashing in a continuous manner at a rate of .25 secs? If it is, that means that the processor in the ride level sensor hasn't had the self test performed. When the self test has been performed and the processor doesn't detect a problem with the system it will flash a code 12 and the light should stop blinking.

To perform a self test, turn the ignition on/engine off. Then press the accessory inflator switch for 3 seconds. After 200 secs the LED should flash a code 12. If it flashes a code 12, press and release the inflator switch. If it doesn't flash a code 12, it should be flashing other trouble codes which you should write down and post up so we can see them.

Awesome! That was it. The light stopped flashing after I pressed the switch for 3 seconds, then it went into its test procedure.
I wasn't quite sure what "code 12" meant, but sure enough, after the test procedure, the light flashed once, paused, then flashed twice. That kept repeating until I pressed the accessory inflator button again.

Thanks for the right on target suggestion.
